Applications are invited for a three-year contract position in Geography at the rank of Assistant Professor.

The George Washington University is located in downtown Washington, D.C. and offers BA and MS degrees in Geography, a BA in Environmental Studies, Minors in Geography and GIS, and a certificate in GIS. Faculty members in the Department are actively involved in the Environmental Studies Program, the Center for Urban and Environmental Research (CUER), and the Elliott School of International Affairs. Research foci in the department include urban environment issues, Arctic regions and migration.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in GIS, Geospatial Statistics or Remote Sensing, and advanced courses in their area of expertise.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Masters or PhD in Geography or allied field with an emphasis on geospatial techniques such as GIS, Geospatial Statistics or Remote Sensing; three years of work experience with the integration of GIS, Remote Sensing and Statistical data for research and geospatial applications; experience with the integration of Open Source software or other cutting edge technologies with traditional GIS software; experience with developing GIS academic programs and courses that support professional training; and experience teaching both traditional and on-line GIS courses. Must be able to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in GIS, Geospatial Statistics or Remote Sensing, and advanced courses in their area of expertise.
