The George Washington University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, to begin in Fall 2018. This is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding person to join and contribute to the development of a new BME department. Strong applicants from all areas of BME are encouraged to apply.
The Department opened in Fall 2014 after moving the longstanding ABET-accredited B.S. program, and the M.S. and Ph.D. BME programs, from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The School of Engineering and Applied Science, including BME, recently (2015) moved into a new 500,000 square-foot Science and Engineering Hall, adjacent to the University Hospital and Schools of Medicine and of Public Health. The building in downtown Washington DC features a state-of-the art imaging facility, nanofabrication facility and brand new modern BME research and instructional laboratories. The George Washington University is located in the heart of the nation's capital, with close access to many federal funding agencies and government research laboratories.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be expected to establish a strong program of high-quality externally-funded biomedical research, and be an enthusiastic and effective teacher of undergraduate and graduate courses in Biomedical Engineering. BME faculty members actively contribute to an environment that values diversity and nurtures collaboration, creativity, and innovation. Ample opportunities exist to benefit from new multidisciplinary collaborations across the University, with a strong cardiac group within BME, a prominent Cancer Center housed in the same building and an excellent cross-departmental Institute for Neuroscience; the new faculty will also have the opportunity to advance and extend existing relationships with nearby government laboratories and agencies.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must have an earned doctorate in Biomedical Engineering, Bioengineering, or a related field, clear evidence of potential for developing a strong externally-funded research program (as evidenced in part by peer-reviewed publications), and the ability to teach effectively at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.
