Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelors of science or arts in biochemistry, molecular biology or related field is required.



Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

1 years laboratory experience in performing molecular biology techniques is preferred.

Experience in maintaining a mouse colony and handling mice is preferred.

Position Summary:

The Hoon Lab focuses on elucidating the mechanisms regulating the establishment of neuronal connections in the mammalian retina. Using high resolution imaging approaches and transgenic tools we uncover the role of synaptic molecules and circuit activity for the formation and function of the mammalian retina. We also seek to identify synaptic anomalies during disease and degeneration conditions. Comparing structural and functional circuit specificities during development and degeneration can unravel 'plastic' elements of retinal synapses which can be the focus for novel therapeutic approaches.

This position will conduct research to uncover the molecular and activity-dependent mechanisms regulating mammalian retinal development and degeneration.
