The Department of Biological Sciences provides professional expertise and service to local, state, national and international constituencies, while promoting the discovery, advancement, and dissemination of basic and applied knowledge in the life and environmental sciences.

Job Description
The Biological Sciences Department at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire a Scientific Instrument Technician to join our team. Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
* Troubleshoot, repair, calibrate and maintain scientific
instrumentation.
* Install new equipment.
* Perform needed preventive maintenance.
* Act as liaison with facilities to aid and maintaining the Life
Sciences Complex.
* Coordinate usage of the department vehicles.
* Reconcile monthly purchasing card statement.
* Supervise, evaluate and train Instrument Shop employees.

Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess the following required qualifications:

Associate's Degree in related field and three years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience. The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are required:

* Working knowledge of related tools, equipment, materials, and other devices.
* Ability to read and interpret complex drawings, charts and designs.
* Ability to work from ideas and to draw own sketches and designs.
* Ability to make varied mathematical computations involved in designing and constructing apparatus and equipment.
* Skill in the care and use of tools and equipment.
* Ability to design, trouble-shoot and maintain complex equipment.
* Ability to operate standard tools and equipment.
* Knowledge of appropriate safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.

Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:

* Minimum 5 years experience of repairing and installing scientific instrumentation and equipment.
* Minimum 5 years working in academic environment.
* Knowledge of UNT policies and procedures.
* Degree or certification from technical college/institution.
