The Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting in the evaluation, recruitment, training and coaching of studentathletes to compete successfully against the highest level of NCAA intercollegiate competition in a quality sports program. The Assistant Coach is held directly accountable for these general responsibilities related to the assigned sports program: assist with the overall management and administration of the assigned sports program, compliance with the budget of the program, and the recruiting, training and performance of student-athletes, as assigned by the Head Coach.

Major duties of the job include:
Under the direction of the Head Football Coach, the successful candidate(s) will assist with the successful administration of a highly visible NCAA Division I football program. Primary duties include:
  • Responsible for recruitment of student-athletes
  • Academic preparation and success of student-athletes
  • Ensure student compliance with rules regulating behavior and appearance
  • Assist in planning and directing the education of students in techniques, skills and theory of football
  • Support the conditioning and training of team members in conjunction with weight/strength coach, athletic trainers and team physicians
  • Coordinate with Assistant Athletic Director-Compliance with NCAA, Mountain West Conference (MWC), and university rules and regulations

Required Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year institution
  • Experience coaching football at the collegiate or Division I Collegiate level or in the NFL.
  • Must be immediately eligible to obtain a State of California driver's license and must be able to comply with all university requirements pertaining to driving on university business. A background check of the candidate's driving record will be required.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and policies
  • Coaching philosophy and teaching concepts must be compatible with those of the Head Coach
  • Ability to work cooperatively with coaches, staff, faculty, students and members of the community
  • Ability and willingness to support the diversity and equity commitments of the department
  • Commitment to academic integrity and compliance with University, conference and NCAA regulations
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and project a professional attitude
  • A history of regular attendance and positive performance evaluations
