Summary of Duties:
The Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine (ESFCOM) at Washington State University is embarking on the accreditation and development of a next generation medical school designed to train students to be physician leaders, who innovate, adapt and discover in an ever changing healthcare landscape. The School is now inviting applications for the position of Simulation Specialist who will join the Medical Education & Clinical Sciences team in leading the college into the future.
Under the guidance and supervision of the Simulation Director the Simulation Specialist will support all aspects of the simulation space. This space will have a primary use of supporting the MD Program at the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine (ESFCOM). In addition to serving the needs of ESFCOM, the position will also include collaborating with the College of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences (COPPS) and College of Nursing (CON) faculty and staff in designing, developing, and delivering workshops, patient-interaction experiences, and Objective Structured Clinical Exams for students and assessing the quality of student learning. The Simulation Specialist will be responsible for recruitment, selection, scheduling, and training of standardized patient's (SPs) and coordinate the use of the simulation space, assist with equipment supply monitoring and inventory. The Simulation Specialist will help ensure standardized experiences, standardizing assessment, and standardized testing events. The Simulation Specialist will work with the Simulation Director to selection, design, and implement technologies that support the students' learning experiences.
The Simulation Specialist will be responsible for coordinating the utilization of resources within the simulation space. Resources include standardized patients, computer-based simulations, manikin-based simulations, task trainers, and others. This position will furthermore aid in design and delivery of skills training, assessment, and inter-professional learning experiences. Assessments include objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs) and others. The Simulation Specialist will work with faculty and staff to develop appropriate scenarios based on defined desired learning outcomes. The role will also be to implement existing and develop new best practices for the use of resources in simulation.
A Master’s degree and two (2) years of professional experience that has included designing and facilitating learning opportunities for diverse groups, educational assessment, maintaining learning environments and communities (may or may not be technology enhanced), and best practices in teaching and learning.
