Position Description:
Reporting to the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs (ADCA)/ Chair of the Department of Clinical Oral Healthcare., supports and contributes to the dental school and clinic mission statements by managing their assigned student group practice within the Clinical Practice Strand in the predoctoral Main Clinic.

1. Direct student practice processes and constituents (students, staff, faculty, patients) to support the goals of the Pacific Dental Helix Curriculum as well as the school vision, mission, and core values, and clinic policies.

2. Provide overall management of an approximately 40 person predoctoral student group practice involving primarily second and third year dental students and second year dental hygiene students; assure appropriate and safe practice operations involving student education, patient care, and practice management; maximize student clinical experiences and practice income by maximizing chair utilization, controlling overhead costs, maximizing clinic productivity, and other operations; offer mentorship or professional advice in a positive way to students who seek it; oversee clinical progress towards promotion to third year and graduation.

3. Direct the following courses: Patient Management and Productivity II and III; Clinical Management and Judgment II and III. Participate as needed in courses such as ICS I, II, and III and Emergency Clinic.

4. With the ADCA/Chair of the Department of Clinical Oral Healthcare., develop and utilize reports in the management of clinic operations and assessment of outcomes (e.g. student learning, patient care, clinic operations, financial outcomes); work closely with the Practice Management course director to implement concepts (e.g. profit and loss statements) into group practice operations.

5. Partner with the ADCA and Associate Dean of Oral Health Education, department chairpersons, and other group practice leaders to actively communicate about clinic-related issues to all stakeholders; conduct quarterly student interviews, class meetings, practice meetings, faculty orientations, grading meetings, huddles, and student/faculty/patient interventions.

6. Communicate with the ADCA/Chair of the Department of Clinical Oral Healthcare and IT/Exan on all clinic related IT operations (hardware and software upgrades, process changes, report writing, grading).

7. Supervise intake procedures within the group practice including emergency and screening; work with the ADCA/Chair of the Department of Clinical Oral Healthcare and other group practice leaders to monitor patient intake and distribution among the group practices.

8. Partner with clinic managers in the supervision of duties provided by clinic staff including Group Practice Coordinators (GPCs), receptionists, patient care coordinators, dental assistants, and dispensing staff.

9. Directly manage and coordinate with the ADCA, department chairpersons, and other group practice leaders immediate resolution of unexpected faculty absences.

10. Provide feedback to the ADCA and department chairpersons on faculty performance as part of MFFE.

11. Serve on committees as required: Including, but not limited to Clinic, Clinic Advisory, Outcomes Review, CQA, and SAPPC.

12. Directly manage clinical case reviews and intervene as needed in processes such as infection control, records management, radiation safety, unusual outcomes, and other quality assurance measures.

13. Participate in various school events (student-administrator dinners, White Coat Ceremony, Graduation events, Asilomar retreat, Alumni meeting, etc.).

14. Perform all other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs/Chair of the Department of Clinical Oral Healthcare.

Basic Qualifications:
Knowledge of:
1. Dental school educational processes.
2. Dental school practice management processes.
3. Private practice management processes.
4. Principles of management and supervision.
5. Principles of business communication, including interpersonal interactions and letter and report writing.
6. Microsoft Excel and Word.
7. Clinical database systems desirable.

Ability to:
1. Communicate effectively with a diverse population of patients, students, staff, faculty and administration.
2. Produce professional and concise reports and written correspondence.
3. Analyze financial reports and make appropriate recommendations.
4. Work independently with minimal supervision.
5. Work effectively in a group setting.
6. Provide effective leadership, training, and supervision.
7. Maintain confidentiality of information.
8. Demonstrate professional judgment in all situations.
9. Effectively management projects and deadlines.

Experience:
1. Minimum five years of dental private practice experience.
2. Minimum five years increasingly responsible management experience in a dental school setting.

Education:
1. DDS/DMD/BDS from an ADA-accredited school of dentistry

License/Certification Requirements:
1. Current dental license.
2. Current DEA permit.
3. Current CPR certification.

Additional Qualifications:
This position requires working with the following requirement:

1. Four days per week, 52 weeks per year.
2. Occasional commitments in the evening or on weekends.
3. Commitment and ability to immediately respond to urgent matters.

4. Response to medical emergencies (e.g. CPR, stabilizing/lifting/moving injured persons).
5. Provide most phases of clinical dentistry including diagnosis, periodontics, radiography, restorative dentistry, endodontics, extractions, and simple orthodontics (Invisalign).
6. Assist in the transfer of patients from wheelchair to dental chair.
7. Frequent computer use.
