Job Summary

Eastern Washington University Department of Psychology invites applications for a full-time, academic year, Lecturer with the working title of Visiting Assistant Professor of Psychology in the Department of Psychology and assigned to our program on Bellevue College Campus in Bellevue, Washington, to begin September 2018. This position is eligible for annual renewal.

The EWU Department of Psychology has offered a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology on the Bellevue Campus since 2008. The most popular of the EWU programs offered on the Bellevue campus, the 70-credit major is designed to provide students with foundation in the science and profession, with emphasis on up-close, hands-on focused experiences such as involvement in research and internships. Class offerings primarily in the evenings prepare students for a wide variety of career areas as well as application for graduate study.

• Teaching a variety of undergraduate courses to fulfill the needs of the Program and Department, including research and method courses
•Engaging in effective teaching and assessment of student learning
•Actively involving undergraduate students in research projects and presentations
•Advising declared majors and graduate students on Department, College, and University requirements; graduate school preparation; and career opportunities
•Coordinating student internships
•Participating in Department meetings and collaborating with colleagues to fulfill the missions of the Department

The typical teaching load is 45 credits per year, spread over three quarters, with release for advising and supervision of student research and internships. The candidate is not required to serve on committees

Required Qualifications:

•Ph.D. in Psychology; ABDs in Psychology may be considered, but the doctorate must be completed no later than 9/15/2018.
•Ability to teach a variety of core courses and specialty areas within psychology (such as Statistics, Research Method, Cultural Psychology, Theories of Personality, Social Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, Health Psychology, and others in area of expertise), as demonstrated by coursework, prior teaching experience, research, and/or publications/presentations.
•Demonstrated ability to supervise student internships and directed studies, and advise Psychology majors as indicated by previous advising, managerial, supervisory, and/or leadership experience.
•A high degree of interest in human and cultural diversity, social justice and experiential and community-based education.
•Mastery of basic computer skills including word processing, database, email, and other forms of instruction technology.
•Candidates must demonstrate ability, experience, and/or interest in promoting cultural competency and/or diversity, including universal accessibility

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference may be given to candidates who also offer one or more of the following:
•At least one-year experience teaching university or college level psychology courses.
•Commitment to quality teaching, to students, and an active research program that involves undergraduates.
