Job Summary/Basic Function: The Department of Science and Mathematics, College of Arts and Sciences, seeks applications from qualified candidates for a full-time, tenure-track appointment beginning fall 2018. The appointment is for an Assistant Professor of Biology with expertise in using molecular phylogenetic techniques to address questions and problems in systematics. This faculty member will be responsible for teaching courses in his/her areas of expertise, general biology for majors or for non-majors, and evolution. Other teaching assignments may be made as needed by the Department. We are especially interested in candidates working on taxa that can be used as indicators of water quality, and candidates with the ability to collaborate with the A&M-SA Institute for Water Resource Science and Technology will receive preferential consideration. The College seeks excellence in instruction, research, and service. The typical teaching load for active researchers is a 3/3. Summer teaching assignments may be available but are not guaranteed.

Work Hours: Teaching assignments may include day, night, or weekend classes.

Education

Necessary Qualifications: A Ph.D. degree in Biology, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution. ABD accepted if the requirements for the Ph.D. degree are completed by May 31, 2018.

A minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in Biology or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience

Necessary Qualifications: A minimum of one year college or university teaching experience.

Evidence of active research.
