~~The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign seeks a Catalogue of Life Executive Editor. Duties: Catalogue of Life Executive Editor in University of Illinois Natural History Survey. Manage editorial assembly of taxonomic datasets into the Catalogue of Life. Prepare and publish research edition of the Catalogue of Life (CoL) consisting of monthly online releases and annual fixed publication on the Web and on DVD. Publish high quality issues according to a predetermined publication schedule that reflects the CoL's mission and learning areas. Lead the data assembly and editorial teams. Interact with software development teams. Develop the pipeline of datasets for future issues. Ensure articles are moving through the editorial process and ensuring that resources are in place for meeting both quality and production schedule requirements. Provide integral connection between taxonomic databases, members of Species 2000, a not-for-profit organization based in the United Kingdom, and the Integrated Taxonomic Information Systems of the Smithsonian Institution and ensure continued success of the CoL. Establish and enforce publication standards for performance including quality, integrity and overall editorial content, design and layout. Communicate progress to the Species 2000 Executive Secretary and ensure quality and timely completion of all layout and production including schedules and deadlines. Ensure the Executive Secretary tracks and reports on key metrics regarding image and impact. Represent the publication both externally and within the CoL, including the Board of Directors and Global Team. Engage with other key CoL leadership to ensure exchange and integration of annual and longer-term strategic themes. Maintain network with the scientists that provide data for the CoL, ensuring the process of data assembly. Serve as Chair on the editorial panel that monitors the quality of the data, and coordinate the annual production of compact discs that are distributed worldwide by Species 2000 Secretariat. Supervise assigned staff, including up to two hourly assistants and/or student employees. Requirements: One year experience as a Catalogue of Life Editor, Researcher, or related which includes experience with Taxonomic databases and the Catalogue of Life Full-time.
