Primary Function of Organization Unit: Division of Academic and Student Affairs Mission, Values & Objectives We promote the success of the whole student. The purpose of the Department of Student Health Services (SHS) is to provide appropriate, affordable, accessible and high quality primary health care to eligible students. The major function of SHS is to provide outpatient care to the 35,000 NC State students. Some level of medical care is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week during the academic year beginning in August and ending in May. Hours of service vary during the summer and during holidays and student breaks. Essential Job Duties: Diagnose and treat gynecological problems of students and provide referrals to consultants for those students whose problems are beyond the capabilities of Student Health Services. Supervise and instruct physician extenders. Our Women's Health clinic offers a full range of gynecologic care and education (no obstetrics) to eligible persons. Decision of diagnosis and treatment are those of individual physicians acting with independence, although consultation between physicians in Student Health is common. Performing gynecological procedures including, but not limited to, colposcopy, endometrial biopsies, intrauterine device placement and removal, and Nexplanon insertion and removal. Much of individual interviews with students are spent informally on health education about their specific condition, and giving instructions on prescriptions and treatment plans. Physicians may on occasion be invited into a class or program to discuss a specific medical subject. Staff physicians serve on various committees related to the functioning of Student Health and to campus health issues. This position is mandatory for pandemic events and essential for Adverse Weather. Staff Physician responsibilities: *Works cooperatively and productively with cross functional teams and departments *Must have the ability to deal tactfully, positively and productively with patients, staff and university administrators *Effective verbal and written communication skills *Ability to perform duties in a tactful, professional manner *Respect and embrace patient and coworker diversity *Consult with Director, Medical Director and other professional staff as needed regarding patient care, assessment and education *Assist in resolution of complaints, requests and inquiries from patients *Ability to work within a high volume medical practice with multiple interruptions and busy work schedule *Ability to respond to urgent and emergent situations *As a University employee, candidate must comply with all applicable policies, rules, regulations and directives to include, but not limited to, SHS guidelines and procedures, and those issued by supervisors *Commitment to quality patient care to eligible persons *Direct patient care includes interviewing, examination, treatment, follow up and referrals as needed *Document all services in electronic medical record according to SHS charting standards *Educate patients in the areas of wellness, prevention and early detection by providing materials and resources *Participate in quality and performance improvement projects, peer review and continuing education *Participate in safety drills (medical, fire, disaster) *Supervise and lead the professional practice of 2 physician extenders in the Women's Health Clinic *Participate in SHS committees and departmental meetings as assigned *Maintain confidentiality according to SHS and federal guidelines and regulations
Minimum Education/Experience: *Graduation from accredited medical school and successful completion of Obstetrics/Gynecology residency *Must be board certified in Gynecology and maintain board certification through employment *License to practice medicine in the state of North Carolina, or eligible for licensure *Current DEA license
Department Required Skills: Successful completion of OB/GYN residency training and board certification in gynecology.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: *Proficiency in colposcopy, endometrial biopsies, intrauterine device placement and removal, Nexplanon insertion and removal, and ultrasound preferred. *Computer and keyboard proficiency as well as experience with electronic medical record. *Experience with successful implementation of quality and/or performance improvement initiatives. *Experience with AAAHC accreditation standards. *Experience with college age population and have an appreciation of their needs.
