The CU South Denver location has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) AV/IT Support Technician position.

Job Summary:

This position supports the needs of all constituents using the CU South Denver location and provides effective and efficient audio/visual and informational technology services for a wide variety of functions at the Liniger Building. This position requires a high level of customer service skill and knowledge of and expertise with various technology systems.

This is a salaried full-time position and requires the flexibility to work evenings, weekends and holidays. This position is not required to be in the on-call rotation.

Examples of Work Performed:

  • Take day-to-day direction from IT Manager and ensures that projects taken align with IT Manager intent.
  • Provide audio/visual (AV) support for events, academic activities, classrooms, computer labs and limited equipment checkout resources. This includes operation, configuration, networking, troubleshooting, scheduling, inventory monitoring, maintenance, and repair.
  • Monitor all AV equipment, and their related peripherals, for proper operation. Develop and document preventative maintenance schedule for AV equipment, keep logs up-to-date.
  • Perform installation tasks for AV projects including but not limited to: pulling cable, installing connectors, mounting projectors and metal fabrication.
  • Use hand and power tools to solder and crimp connectors along with various other AV systems related tasks.
  • Read and interpret AV system drawings, schematics, and construction plans and install AV equipment to meet requirements as detailed in installation plans.
  • Setup projectors, screens, mixers, speakers, microphones and lighting.
  • Work with customers on running AV for their event including monitoring microphone levels, advancing slide slows, and playing media while following the customer provided script.
  • Follow events schedule as close as possible.
  • Provide technical and administrative support for the RealD 3D theater including building pre-shows, ordering supplies, setting up new movies, maintaining contract requirements, monthly reporting to vendors, replacing lamps, and working with vendors on support.
  • Provide backup operation support to Customer Coordinators that run the daily films.
  • Prepare classrooms for distant education sessions as directed. Operate distance education equipment for the students and faculty in the classroom to enable the quality of education for local and distant students.
  • Provide server and network maintenance as directed. Provide phone and voicemail support to end users.
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot computers and printers.
  • Share IT coverage schedule including working Saturday & Sunday as part of shifts.
  • Update technical/professional skills on a continuing basis. The employee is expected to use the unscheduled time to further their technical skills by pursuing technical certifications, continuing education, self-study and other methods which will provide skills to the individual that would benefit the department. The employee will work with the IT Manager to identify training opportunities that can enhance their ability to do their jobs or training for new skills as new equipment or applications are deployed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by IT Manager.

Salary and Benefits:

The hiring salary range has been established as $42,120 - $48,000 and is commensurate with skills and experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in Information Technology or equivalent work experience.
  • Two (2) years of experience working with audio, video, presentation, control devices, and network systems.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be willing and able to sit, stand, walk, crawl, climb, stoop, kneel, talk, smell and hear as the job requires.
  • Must be willing and able to use hands and fingers to feel, handle or operate objects and reach with hands and arms.
  • Must be willing and able to climb stairs and stepladders.
  • Must be willing and able to lift and move up to 50 pounds, unassisted, on a daily basis.
  • Must be willing and able to use close vision and the adjust focus as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or Audio Visual Technology.
  • Experience with Videoconferencing Technologies (Zoom, Mediasite).
  • Crestron programming experience or certification.
  • Experience with Active Directory and domains.
  • Experience with computer or application imaging software.
  • Experience working in a college or higher education environment.
  • Experience in preparing technical documentation.


  • Excellent general electronic and technology skills.
  • Strong AV knowledge.
  • Organized and able to manage multiple projects with multiple deadlines.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting networking issues for both wired and wireless networks.
  • Flexible work style and attitude with a willingness to work as a member of a fast-paced team.
  • Proficient in computer hardware troubleshooting
  • Knowledge and proficiency in supporting Microsoft Windows 7 and 10, as well as Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to follow instructions without direct supervision.
  • Ability to communicate both in writing and verbally.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting networking issues for both wired and wireless networks.
