Educational and Experience Requirement

Associates degree in related field. Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred. Two years of experience in student retention, orientation, recruitment, or a related field. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.

Nature & Purpose of Position

Coordinates and implements parent orientation during new student orientation, and assists in the planning and implementation of other new student orientation programs.

Primary Responsibilities

Assists in the planning and implementation of parent and transfer student orientation. Organizes and maintains online orientation. Assists in the development of procedures and guidelines for orientation. Coordinates schedules for parent and transfer orientation. Provides reports on student and parent orientation. Produces and orders the new orientation handbook for students and parents. Maintains and proofs visitor guides and orientation handbooks. Focuses on areas to improve students’ educational experience. Creates, promotes, and maintains a seamless transition across campus with departments, programs, and faculty for First Year Experience, learning communities, and Sam Center. Represents Sam Houston State University at National and Regional conferences. Focuses on enhancing the transition experience for those students coming from out-of-state and who are unable to attend new student orientation through online orientation and communication. Oversees refund processing of orientation payments and ordering give-a-ways and uniforms for leaders. Maintains P-Card reports and runs training meetings with orientation team. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Must possess the ability to interact effectively with diverse populations, have superior interpersonal skills, and communicate well verbally and in written form. Must be able to manage multiple tasks. Position requires evening and weekend work.
