Educational and Experience Requirement
Doctorate degree in psychology or related field. One year experience delivering mental health services in a clinical setting or a related field. University counseling center setting preferred. Licensed or license eligible in the State of Texas. License must be obtained within 18 months of start date. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
Nature & Purpose of Position
Provides direct and indirect clinical mental health services to the student body of Sam Houston State University.
Conducts Personal, Couples, and Group Counseling. Provides consultation and outreach to the campus community including students, faculty, and staff. Responds to day and night psychological crisis for students. Conducts intake assessments. Provides supervision to graduate student trainees. Engages in on-going case management. Makes appropriate referrals to other agencies as necessary (e.g. M.D., Psychiatrist, etc.). Serves on university committees. Engages in staff meetings and professional development activities. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Must have strong counseling, crisis intervention, and outreach skills. Must demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and the ability to develop, implement, and evaluate effective treatment plans. Must be able to work with a diverse student population. All services provided are bound by the Rules of Practice set forth by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists. Supervision towards licensure is provided. Extreme care is necessary in the performance of duties.
