Job Summary/Basic Function: The Department of Arts and Humanities seeks applications from qualified candidates for a full-time, tenure-track appointment beginning in Fall 2018. The appointment is for an Advanced Assistant or Associate Professor of Communication; the specialization sought is open, with preferred areas including Journalism, Mass Communication, and Public Relations. The base teaching load is a 3/3. The College seeks excellence in instruction, research, and service. Summer teaching assignments may be available but are not guaranteed.
Work Hours: Flexible to suit course schedule. Teaching assignments may include day, night, or weekend classes.

The Communication Program at Texas A&M University-San Antonio offers a relevant, skills-oriented course of study responsive to today's fast-changing media landscape. We emphasize the fundamentals of journalism and public relations, along with contemporary topics such as social media and entrepreneurship. Our students annually earn regional and national distinction, competing for and winning awards, scholarships, grants and professional development opportunities. Since the launch of the academic program in 2010, our students have received scholarships from the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ), Google, the Online News Association (ONA), the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ), the San Antonio Association of Hispanic Journalists (SAAHJ), the San Antonio Professional Chapter of Women in Communications, as well as awards from the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association (TIPA), the Mark of Excellence Awards from the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ), an Emmy from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, and admission to the Boston University Graduate College of Communication, the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism, and the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism.

Necessary Qualifications: A Ph.D. in Communication or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution.
A minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in Communication
Necessary Qualifications: Evidence of active research and publications.
College or university academic experience consistent with the rank of Associate Professor.
Preferred Qualifications: Willingness to work in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.
Broad training in Communication with particular expertise in Journalism, Mass Communication, or Public Relations.
Familiarity with the needs of a non-traditional, first-generation, culturally diverse student body.
Familiarity with high-impact educational practices such as cooperative education, service learning, and undergraduate research.
Experience with contemporary instructional technologies such as learning management systems and e-portfolios.
