Job Summary/Basic Function: Under general direction, this position provides leadership, coordination and expertise in designing, implementing, and interpreting assessment projects related to student development, learning outcomes, and educational programming and services. This position manages assessment initiatives related to students' cognitive, emotional, social, and academic progress as impacted by Student Affairs-based activities.
Specifically, the Assessment Specialist I provides: expertise on the types of assessments that will be most effective, as well as guidance on designing instruments, sampling, data analysis, and reporting; consultation on various assessment technologies as well as trainings related to assessment topics for staff; and coordinates the annual reporting and strategic planning process for the Division.
Work Hours: Typically works Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. May work beyond normal office hours and/or weekends.

Provides leadership and oversight of assessments efforts within the Division of Student Affairs.
Develops assessment strategies that allows the division to measure learning outcomes and positively impact student success and retention.
Coordinates the Division of Student Affairs Strategic Plan and implementation.
Consults on and assists with program evaluation as requested. Works with unit directors to measure program effectiveness and assist in interpreting data.
Mines University data to inform practices within the Division of Student Affairs.
Creates central repository for all divisional and departmental assessment materials.
Creates and disseminates annual reports reflective of planning, achievements, and progress.
Provides training for division staff regarding assessment competency; creates and leads on-going staff development opportunities related to assessment and planning.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Necessary Qualifications: Bachelor's degree.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree.
Necessary Qualifications: Three years of related work experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Three or more years of progressively responsible experience in research, evaluation and planning.

Working knowledge of Banner. Knowledge of Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education. Relevant professional experience in an institution of higher education. Knowledge of higher education assessment procedures. Demonstrated experience assessing student affairs programming and services.
