Job Description Summary
Southwestern Michigan College, a two-year college located approximately 30 minutes north of South Bend, Indiana and approximately 30 minutes from Lake Michigan, is seeking a full-time communications instructor qualified to teach a combination of courses including public speaking, interpersonal communications, introduction to mass communications, and writing for mass media.

This opportunity requires heavy involvement with curriculum development of all communications courses, training communications adjunct faculty, advising communication students, and teaching 15 credits each Fall and Spring semester.

All applicants must demonstrate the ability to teach effectively using a variety of instructional methods and relate to and engage students from diverse backgrounds.

Excellent organization and communication skills as well as the demonstrated use of instructional technology and online learning management systems are required. The best applicants will demonstrate the ability to connect with both traditional and nontraditional students in a rural community college setting.

The position is scheduled to begin in the fall semester of 2018.

Required Qualifications
Qualified applicants will be experienced college instructors with a minimum of a MA degree in Communications.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred applicants will be experienced college instructors who have a PhD in Communications and are also proficient with Moodle. Someone who has a background in speech pathology is also a plus.

Other Information
All applicants must demonstrate the ability to promote active and collaborative learning through a variety of teaching methods, as well as relate to students. Excellent organization and communication skills as well as the demonstrated use of instructional technology are required.
