Working Title: Research Associate
Position Type: Professional Research Staff
Department: Center for Public Health Genomics
Posting Date: 11-08-2016
The Casey Laboratory at the University of Virginia seeks a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the area of inherited colorectal cancer risk with a focus on genetics, cell biology and computational biology. The candidate will join an interactive group of motivated scientists at the Center for Public Health Genomics to study the biology of genetic risk factors involved in colorectal cancer.
Our studies involve the integration of increasingly large amounts of genotypic, phenotypic and 'omics data to investigate the biological basis of inherited risk. We are incorporating epigenetic (for example ChIP-Seq and ATAC-Seq), genetic/genomic (for example genome wide association studies, whole genome sequencing and RNA-Seq) and cell biology (normal colon 3D organoid "mini-gut" models, CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing) approaches to interrogate the biological and mechanistic basis of inherited risk variants. The selected candidate will be expected to participate in the development of publications for peer-reviewed journals, as well as on grant proposals to funding agencies. The candidate will be encouraged to choose their own research projects in the above-mentioned areas, with appropriate mentorship.
Candidates must have a PhD or MD degree in hand by start date and demonstrated expertise in mammalian cell culture. Experience with bioinformatics tools is preferred. Successful candidates must have effective oral and written communication skills as demonstrated by conference presentations and peer-reviewed publications.
• Ph.D. degree in Genetics/Genomics, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, or a related field in hand by start date
• Experience in at least one of the following: genomics; computational genomics/bioinformatics; molecular biology; stem cell biology; high-throughput genome analyses
• Independence, creativity and good communication skills
• A record of publication in peer-reviewed journals
