Posting Summary:
The Department of Cell Biology at the University of Virginia seeks multiple Research Scientists to work in Dr. Barry Gumbiner's laboratory to study the regulation of cadherin-mediated cell adhesion as it pertains to control of epithelial and endothelial barrier function. The work in the laboratory integrates cell and molecular biology approaches with mouse animal models to study cadherin function in epithelial tissues and the vasculature. Of particular interest will be the study of cadherins in maintaining epithelial and endothelial barriers during the inflammatory process. The role of the person holding this position also includes supervision of undergraduate students, advising technicians, as well as an involvement in writing manuscripts and grants.

Candidates must have a PhD or MD, 5 years of postdoctoral experience in cell biology, developmental biology, or molecular biology in areas relevant to topics described above. Expertise in recombinant DNA methods, immunofluorescence imaging, and animal models are strongly preferred. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently and productively are required.
