The Management Area of the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia is seeking applications for a full-time tenure track position in strategic management, beginning in August 2016.
The position is open to all ranks. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in hand or be near completion. Senior candidates must have an established record of both excellent research and outstanding teaching. For appointment at the Associate or Assistant Professor level, applicants must demonstrate clear success and potential for a strong record in research and teaching, and ideally possess practical business experience. Particular consideration will be given to scholars whose research and teaching interests have potential synergies with current McIntire faculty and programs (e.g., strategic leadership and decision making, corporate governance, global strategy), including an interest in participating in the School's exciting portfolio of international courses and course trips around the world.
Currently, the McIntire School of Commerce (http://www.commerce.virginia.edu) awards a Bachelor of Science in Commerce, and Masters of Science degrees in Accounting, in Commerce (Business Analytics, Finance and Marketing/Management) and in the Management of Information Technology. McIntire is recognized for excellence and innovation in undergraduate and graduate business education and scholarship. In its 2014 annual ranking of undergraduate business programs, Bloomberg BusinessWeek magazine again ranked the McIntire School of Commerce second in the nation. Consistent with its Jeffersonian heritage, McIntire enjoys a culture of friendly and open exchange among faculty and between faculty and students.
McIntire serves over 660 undergraduates and 250 graduate students. Undergraduate students enter the Commerce School in their third year at the University and concentrate in one or more of six fields: accounting, finance, information technology, management, and marketing. A recent New York Times article identified McIntire's Integrated Core Experience for third year students as the envy of other business schools. The major professional services firms (e.g., advertising, accounting, consulting, and investment banks) and many of the Fortune 500 corporations actively recruit McIntire graduates. Charlottesville is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and is rated highly as a desirable location to live.
McIntire faculty members have received numerous regional and national awards for their research. They also serve as members of editorial review boards and as editors of leading journals in their fields. Management Area scholars include: Tom Bateman, Carl Zeithaml, Brad Brown, Gary Ballinger, Amanda Cowen, Rob Cross, Adelaide W. King, David Lehman, Jeremy Marcel, Kisha Lashley, Kieran O'Connor, and Ira Harris. Recent publications from this faculty have appeared in Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Nature, Organization Science, Strategic Management Journal, Management Science, Journal of Management, Journal of Applied Psychology, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Harvard Business Review and California Management Review. Examples of leading scholars outside the Management Area at McIntire include Bill Wilhelm and David C. Smith, Finance; David Mick and Rick Netemeyer, Marketing; and Suprateek and Saonee Sarker, IT.
