Posting Summary:
The Department of Public Health Sciences (PHS) at the University of Virginia seeks a postdoctoral associate position. The successful candidate will work closely with Dr. Zoellner, other investigators and project staff in the PHS department and Cancer Center without Walls, graduate research assistants, stakeholders from Virginia communities, and Virginia residents. The research experiences will span a number of community-based research projects that target nutrition, physical activity, obesity, and cancer initiatives. The two primary research projects include:

- A randomized-controlled trial to compare the reach, effectiveness and maintenance of two family-based childhood obesity treatment programs in the medically underserved Dan River Region (Funding: Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute)
- A health literacy intervention targeting sugar-sweetened beverage intake among low resourced populations in Southwest Virginia (Funding: National Institutes of Health, National Cancer Institute)

This position will require frequent in-state travel. Occasional overnight travel will be required. This position is based in UVA's satellite office in Christiansburg, Virginia. The initial appointment is for 1 year, with 2 years of additional funding available, contingent on performance. The position is available starting March 2017, but a start date is negotiable.

Candidates must have a PhD in behavioral sciences, nutrition, public health, psychology, sociology or related field by appointment start date. Must have a strong interest and experience in community-based research and working with at-risk and diverse communities, have data management and statistical analytic skills and have expertise and training in behavioral nutrition and physical activity, community-based participatory research, and/or health literacy. Interest in translational science and working with a multidisciplinary team of scientists is required, as is outstanding written and oral communication skills, including record of peer-review publications and scholarly presentations, and a strong track record in cooperative work. Candidates must be creative, independent, and highly motivated, with the ability to interact professionally in both research and community environments. Must have strong work habits and the ability to work independently and with diverse groups.

Registered Dietitian is preferable. Experience in childhood obesity treatment and prevention programs and experience working on federally funded research trials are preferable.
