The laboratory of Dr. Shu Man Fu in the Department of Medicine Center for Immunity, Inflammation and Regenerative Medicine is seeking a Research Scientist in a field of molecular and cell biology with focus on autoimmunity, specifically in regards to systemic lupus erythematosus and related end organ renal disease. The employee in this position investigates the conditions under which the immune system appears to exert harmful effects on the host, the genes influencing these diseases, antibodies and proteins present in the body and lymphocytes reacting with these proteins. These studies allow us to understand factors responsible for the initiation and progression of autoimmune disease and to discover methods to treat/prevent them. This position will function with a high degree of independence, ability to execute and interpret experiments on a daily basis with limited supervisory input. This position requires a strong background in recombinant DNA techniques, molecular biology, cell biology and immunology. This position requires experience with establishment of podocyte cell lines, metabolic functions in relationship to cell death, genetic manipulation by CRISPR/Cas, biochemistry and protein purification is especially required.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree in biomedical sciences, preferably in developmental biology or cell biology. 4-7 years of experience in molecular and cell biology techniques including recombinant DNA construction, primary cell culture, RNA and miRNA purification, microarray profiling, immunofluorescence microscopy, in situ hybridization, mouse embryo harvest and manipulation, cryomicrotomy and electronic microscopy. Independent research experience is preferred.
