The Curry School of Education at the University of Virginia is seeking applicants for a non-tenure track research faculty member in the Department of Human Services, with an affiliation with Youth-Nex. Rank of Assistant or Associate Professor is dependent upon qualifications. Incumbent works with current faculty on extramurally funded projects focused on preventive and development promoting studies, with a central emphasis on randomized control trials (RCT) methodology. Research focuses on school-based prevention, teacher training, positive youth development, youth violence, mental health, substance use, and health disparities. Incumbent provides expertise in group and individual randomized control issues and analytic approaches. In addition to aiding with current and recently completed externally funded trials, the faculty member is expected to pursue sponsored research on issues of randomized control trials. Collaborating with other methodologists within Curry and across the university, the intention is to initiate a nationally influential program in RTC Trial methodology. This research faculty appointment is contingent upon satisfactory performance and the availability of funding.
A doctorate in biostatistics, statistics, education, human development, public health, psychology or a related field is required. Two years of post-doctoral of equivalent experience is required, preferably post-doctoral training in statistics or methodology related to randomized control trials and/or prevention and developmental interventions. Experience contributing to the design, development, and analysis of data from federally-funded research to examine a variety of research questions regarding program efficacy and effectiveness, causal inference, variation in program impact etc. within the context of school-based preventive intervention and prevention programs is required. Also required are:
* Demonstrated ability to apply advanced quantitative research methods to research issues related to prevention of behavioral and mental health problems, or related issues (e.g., school climate, school equity, school discipline, youth violence prevention, and positive youth development promotion) through randomized control trials.
* Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, collaboration, and communication skills.
* Ability to quickly and effectively employ and learn new advanced quantitative methods and software
* Experience with and knowledge of multilevel and latent variable modeling, causal inference, missing data, power analysis, longitudinal analyses, growth mixture modeling, subgroup analysis, latent transition analysis, latent class analysis.
Preference will be given to applicants with:
* Experience developing the methods sections for grant proposals (e.g., study design, power analysis, and proposed analyses).
* Track record of extramural funding.
* Extensive skill in utilizing Mplus (advanced statistical software).
