The University of Virginia School of Medicine is seeking applicants for a full-time, non-tenure track instructional faculty position in the Office of Medical Education to serve as an educator of anatomy and physiology. The primary responsibilities will be to function as the physiology content leader and to provide physiology education to medical students, which will include small-group sessions, case-based discussions, and Team-Based Learning. The chosen applicant will work closely with system leaders to integrate physiology throughout the medical curriculum and to maximize the clinical relevance of physiology within a systems-based pre-clerkship curriculum. Additional responsibilities will include teaching as a laboratory instructor in gross anatomy laboratory sessions.
The chosen applicant is encouraged to pursue research in Medical Education and to regularly present and publish their research findings. Advancement in educational research and/or scholarship work is required for promotion.
Minimum requirements include a terminal degree (PhD, MD, DO, DC) with a minimum of five years' teaching experience in human physiology. Preferred qualifications include dissection-based human anatomy laboratory instruction. Candidates should have a commitment to excellence in teaching, good communication skills, and experience in computer-based teaching and learning.
Preference will be given to applicants with a record of scholarly publication and presentation in physiological sciences and/or medical education and to candidates with demonstrated teaching skills, as evidenced by outstanding teaching evaluations and/or a track record of teaching innovations and awards. Experience teaching in an integrated basic science medical school curriculum is also desired, as is experience in course leadership.
