Posting Date: 07-31-2017
The Department of Psychology at the University of Virginia is seeking applicants for a postdoctoral Research Associate position in the field of computational cognitive neuroscience. The position will involve working on a project focusing on the development of new model-based methods of assessing cognitive state. The goal of the research project is to quantify fluctuations in cognitive performance with mathematical models of behavior combined within a Bayesian joint modeling framework with neural and other sensor data. The position will entail helping to design, collect, and analyze behavioral and neural (both fMRI and EEG) data, as well as, helping to develop the entire modeling and analysis ecosystem, parts of which we will release as open source software for the scientific community to use. The position will include preparation of manuscripts for leading peer-reviewed journals, as well as assistance writing grants to secure ongoing funding for the lab. Finally, the position will entail some supervision and collaboration with graduate students, research assistants, and undergraduate students in the lab. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in any field closely related to neuroscience, psychology, or computer science by the position start date and demonstrate a strong research background with excellent data analysis skills in at least one of the following fields: computational models of cognition (especially memory) and/or machine learning applied to neural data. Preference will be given to individuals who have prior experience with Python/C programming.
This is a one-year appointment. However, appointments may be renewed for one or two years (one-year increments), contingent upon available funding and satisfactory performance.
