Summer Enrichment Program Lead Teacher
Working Title: Summer Enrichment Program Lead Teacher
Position Type: Hourly Wage
Department: Curry School of Education
Posting Date: 09-15-2017
The Saturday and Summer Enrichment Program at the Curry School of Education is looking for Lead Teachers for its residential summer camp in June and July 2018. Classes are taught daily, Monday-Friday, either in the morning or in the afternoon, for 6 weeks from June 17-July 28. Incumbents attend training, write curriculum, and teach classes to children rising into grades 5-11. Students are grouped in grades 5-6, 7-8, and 9-11. Course proposals can be in almost any subject, including, but not limited to:
A Bachelor's Degree is required, but equivalent content area or teaching experience will be considered in lieu of a degree. Experience teaching or performing the discipline or craft in the content area of the course being taught is required. Ability to relate to children from diverse backgrounds is required. Experience teaching middle and high school age children in a classroom setting is strongly preferred, or experience teaching at the university level, as is knowledge of curriculum development and classroom management.
Applicant screening begins October 02, 2017, but the position will remain open until filled.
Please thoughtfully complete all the questions for this application in their entirety. Here are some helpful Hints for Course Proposals:
- SEP seeks classes that are not found in the "regular" education coursework. If you wish to teach a more traditional topic (culture classes, astronomy, etc.), find a twist or a new lens for engaging learners with this topic.
- Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics classes are always in high demand. Could you integrate any of these areas into your course at some point?
- SEP values active and authentic learning. Our curriculum focuses less on "content coverage" and more on depth and engaging these learners with key ideas and principles from various disciplines and fields.
- NOTE: This is only a proposal. We just want to find out about your initial ideas - full curriculum development will come later if you are selected for hire.
