Posting Summary:
The Rotating Machinery and Controls (ROMAC) Laboratory in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Virginia seeks candidates for a Research Professor. Rank will be determined by candidate's experience and qualifications. ROMAC is an industrial research consortium which performs research in a broad range of application areas related to turbomachinery. The individual will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team of faculty, graduate students and research professionals.

Duties include directing graduate student research, leading the development of new computational methods based on a combination of commercial software and in-house development software. The successful candidate will interact with representatives from the ROMAC member companies, and will attend professional meetings, give presentations at conferences as well as at ROMAC's Annual meeting, publish journal articles, and develop successful funding proposals.

Candidates must have a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field with a strong background and experience in turbomachinery. Knowledge and experience in specific subjects such as rotor dynamics, bearings, seals, and computational modeling of rotating machinery is required. Industrial experience in the field of turbomachinery is desirable. The successful candidate will also have a strong publication record.
