The Office of Diversity and Engagement (ODE) in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences seeks candidates for multiple Program Directors supporting dynamic portfolios of activities and initiatives supporting underrepresented and underserved students. Overall duties may include student advising, counseling, and engagement, program development and management, strategic diversity, and serving as an advocate and champion for undergraduate and graduate students from underrepresented groups.
Based on a candidate's background, specific responsibilities may include (i) collaborating on the pursuit of internal and external funding, (ii) researching and implementing high impact practices for student retention, engagement, and success, as well as tracking and assessing all student programs, (iii) working with stakeholders in Undergraduate Education, counseling and career services to improve the engineering student experience, (iv) collaborating on student tutoring programs, (v) overseeing and connecting students with academic and professional opportunities including internships, research experiences for undergraduates, and study abroad, (vi) serving as a representative on committees to facilitate student advising and interventions for underserved students in need, (vii) managing summer programming, engagements with K-12 schools, engineering societies, and civic partners, and (viii) collaborating on ODE efforts to close outcomes gaps among student populations and to substantially increase the percentage of SEAS underrepresented students studying abroad.
The Program Directors will work closely with the Associate Dean of Diversity and Inclusion and the ODE team. The responsibilities above will be coordinated in concert with a current longitudinal research project focusing on academic achievement in STEM education. Institutional partners on this project include the Office of the Provost, affiliated faculty researchers from the Curry School of Education, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the Batten School of Public Policy. To this end, the ideal candidate will have experience using evidenced-based and data-informed approaches to engaging students (particularly minorities, women first-generation, rural, socio-economically disadvantaged, LGBTQQIA) on curricular and co-curricular matters through holistic paradigms in order to best meet individual student needs. The ideal candidate will be both automonous and highly collaboratively, a creative problem-solver, and someone with a demonstrated commitment to student development, underrepresented and underserved student populations, and knowledge of high impact practices related to student success.
Master's degree required with a preference for degrees in student affairs, higher education, or counseling. 1-3 years of relevant experience required. Some evening and weekend work required.
