The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering in the School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Virginia (UVA) is seeking outstanding candidates for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position at the rank of Assistant, Associate or full Professor. Candidates with expertise in Autonomous Systems are encouraged to apply, particularly those in fields including but not limited to:
•Autonomous vehicles including those operating in air and/or space, on and off-road, and marine environments (both surface and underwater)
•Intelligent multi-vehicle control and connected-and-automated vehicles
•Advanced robotics and manufacturing systems, including human machine integration/interface
•Sensors, digital communication and control of mechanical systems
•High-impulse autonomous launch systems
•Autonomous aided discovery and development of materials systems
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or a closely related discipline by the start date of appointment, a record of excellence in research, a commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and a dedication to service in both the research community and the university. Rank, tenure status and compensation are contingent upon experience. The award of tenure-eligible requires documentation of excellence in one area (research or teaching), scholarship and regional reputation. The award of tenure requires documented excellence in two areas (research or teaching), scholarship and emerging national reputation.
