The Department of English at the University Virginia invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant/Associate position in Digital Writing and Rhetoric. The appointment begins with the fall term of 2018, with an anticipated start date of July 25, 2018. In addition to developing external funding to support research endeavors, candidates will be expected to teach at the graduate and undergraduate levels and provide service to the University, Department and professional organizations.
The candidate appointed to this position will teach two courses per semester and participate in a growing Academic and Professional Writing Program housed within the English Department. Teaching will include first-year and advanced writing courses, along with opportunities to teach and mentor graduate students. Ideally, colleagues in these positions will contribute to the development of two initiatives we plan to launch next year: an undergraduate certificate in Public and Professional Writing and a concentration in Literary and Writing Pedagogy in our MA program.
Applicants must hold a PhD in Rhetoric and Composition or a relevant field at the time of appointment in July 2018. Preferred qualifications include applicants whose research and teaching explore visual rhetoric and the relationship between text and image.
