The Department of Chemistry at the University of Virginia invites candidates, excited for the opportunity to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment, to apply for a Research Scientist position. The incumbent will perform cutting-edge and multidisciplinary research that integrates synthesis of small molecule probes with mass spectrometry-based proteomics and metabolomics for pathophysiological analyses of enzyme-disrupted cells and animals. Specific project areas include, but not limited to, design, synthesis, and evaluation of small molecules targeting lipid metabolism and signaling in inflammatory disorders, as well as development of novel small molecule and cell based immunotherapies in cancer.
Completion of a Ph.D. in medicinal chemistry or a related discipline is required. Candidates must have at least 4 years combined experience with (a) small molecule design, synthesis and optimization in drug discovery; (b) lipid chemistry and lipid-based drug delivery system; (c) in vitro and in vivo drug evaluation, particularly tumor models in rodents. Candidates must have effective oral and written communication skills, and be capable of providing leadership in the lab and guiding graduates and undergraduate students in their research projects.
