Posting Summary:
The Office of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) at the University of Virginia is seeking to fill a position for an Instructional Designer/Content Developer who will work directly with stakeholders to analyze, design, develop, and implement online training modules and multimedia content.

The Instructional Designer/Content Developer will report directly to the IT Director/Chief Technology Officer (CTO) as part of an integrated team of Subject Matter and IT professionals who support the research mission of the University.

Research at the University requires training to be delivered in the following subject areas:
Radioactive Materials, Biological Agents, Hazardous Chemicals, Shop/Mechanical Tools and Equipment, Human Subject Research, Vertebrate Animal Research and other necessary subject matter areas.

Candidates must have an in-depth knowledge of educational and instructional design theories, emerging technologies, as well as experience with developing computer-based and/or online training, and multimedia content.

We are seeking someone who will manage projects with a collaborative approach and help to foster a team-based work environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills, are essential.

Requirements
Ownership of design, development, and implementation of training and multimedia content, to ensure UVA remains best in class with its e-Learning content and integrated systems

Embrace and continue forward with our current philosophy of "conceptualizing technical-functional content into something creative that people actually enjoy consuming"

Apply education and instructional design theory, multimedia production techniques, and best practices for end-user experience to develop interactive e-Learning applications

Responsible for updating existing e-Learning content as the platform or processes change. This includes updates to video, audio, graphics, backgrounds, etc.

Leads efforts to assess, review, revise, and troubleshoot current content

Participates in content development to enhance communication and out-reach to our research community

Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree (Education, Psychology, Communication, Instructional Technology/Design, or STEM-H field, preferred)

Science background (education or professionally) preferred

3+ years of experience in instructional design and development

Demonstrated expertise with eLearning software (preference given for experience with Adobe Captivate, Articulate Studio, and/or Articulate Storyline)

Equivalency:
Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered.

Excellent one-on-one and facilitation skills

Excellent verbal/written communication skills

Strong commitment to customer service

Able to manage workflow with minimal oversight, in a fast-paced, frugal environment with multiple stakeholders and sometimes-changing priorities

Experience with all stages of photography, videography, and audio production from conceptualization through post-production and delivery

Knowledge of graphic design principles as related to digital media production
