The Department of Pharmacology at the University of Virginia seeks candidates for a faculty wage position. The individual chosen for the position will be responsible for structural biology studies involving human sphingosine kinases types 1 and 2 (SphK1, SphK2) as well as the human sphingosine 1-phosphate transporter, Spinster (SPNS2). The SphKs are soluble enzymes, while SPNS2 in an integral membrane protein. Specifically, the individual should have experience expressing such recombinant proteins in a suitable host (e.g. E. coli), purifying such proteins, generating diffracting crystals, collecting and processing data, solving high resolution structures from the diffraction patterns, structure determination, and structure analysis. An important aspect of the position will be solving structures with novel inhibitors bound.
Candidates must have a PhD in a Biomedical Sciences field with at least six years of experience. Experience in working with either SphKs or SPNS2 is highly desirable.
