The Center for Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning (CASTL) in the Curry School of Education seeks multiple Research Specialists (wage) to assist with the Virginia Kindergarten Readiness Project Math Assessment Pilot. Incumbents conduct assessments with pre-k, kindergarten, and first grade children, collect data using project guidelines, and upload collected data. Positions will be at multiple locations across the Commonwealth of Virginia including Northern Virginia, Bedford County, Amelia County, and Fredericksburg. Additional locations may be added.
An associate's degree or equivalent course work is required, a bachelor's degree is preferred. Experience performing direct work with children in either an educational setting or an out-of-school setting such as a summer camp or an after school program is preferred, as is experience with Early Childhood or Social Science research. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills are required, as are strong organization skills, an attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively with a diverse population. Reliable transportation for traveling between schools (mileage reimbursed) is required. Must be able to attend training in late March 2018. Ability to use and troubleshoot with technology, including laptops and tablets, is required, as is knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word).
Data collection will occur for approximately 8-10 weeks in the spring of 2018 (April and May). Hourly rate is commensurate with experience.
