Posting Summary:
The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Virginia seeks applications for a Research Associate position at the postdoctoral level to study diagnostic imaging (IVIS, PET, and MRI) and molecular approaches for potential therapeutics of intervertebral disc degeneration.

Candidates must have a PhD or MD/PhD in cell and molecular biology- or molecular imaging related fields. In addition to experience in molecular therapy, the candidates should have backgrounds in cell culture, in vitro assays, animal handling, and histological studies. Surgical clinical experience is preferred, and knowledge and experience with gene delivery and recombinant protein expression technology is also desirable. Effective spoken and written communication skills are essential. Proficiency in computer programs for data compilation and evaluation and advanced Microsoft Office skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are required.

The successful candidate will receive a one-year appointment. Contingent upon satisfactory performance and the availability of funds, the appointment is renewable in one-year increments up to three years with the possibility of extension for two additional years.
