A Postdoctoral/Research Associate position supported by newly funded NIH grant is immediately available in the laboratory of Dr. Helmy Siragy at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Virginia where we are investigating novel renal mechanisms contributing to the development of hypertension and diabetic kidney disease. Our laboratory is part of a rich scientific environment with strong emphasis on renal and cardiovascular diseases. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to be involved in multidisciplinary renal and cardiovascular research. This individual will be expected to conduct independent research, contribute to the writing of scientific papers and present our research data at major national and international conferences.
Candidate should have PhD and/or MD degree, at least one publication in peer reviewed journal, and excellent English oral communication and writing skills. Strong background in renal and cardiovascular physiology and molecular biology is preferred. Candidate will be responsible for data analysis, preparation of manuscripts, and training and supervision of other lab personnel. Laboratory studies include in vivo and in vitro experiments. Experience with the following techniques are preferred: rodent surgery, real time PCR, optical imaging techniques, immunohistochemistry, western blot protein expression and analysis, in vitro gene expression and analysis, cell culture, siRNA, shRNA, ELISA, Chip, EMSA, and statistical analysis. Funding for this position is available for 3 years, with the possibility of extension. Salary will be based on experience and NIH guidelines.
