Do you want to lead an effort to ensure donors feel connected to the programs and people they have supported? HSDO is looking for a Director of Donor Relations and Strategic Stewardship who is experienced, proactive, and creative. This integral member of our collaborative team should also be a clear and open communicator who is service-oriented and is driven to create the best possible experiences for our donors, prospects, volunteers, faculty and staff. He/she should understand and appreciate the value of stewarding UVA Health System's generous donors in a strategic and meaningful way that is customized to the particular interests of individual donors or benefactor groups.

The qualified candidate will have at least 7 years of donor relations, development, or client-based experience, including knowledge of both stewardship and event planning best practices. In addition, experience supervising and motivating staff is required. The Director of Donor Relations and Strategic Stewardship should be energized by strategizing with their team and major gift officers on refining existing programs and creating new stewardship efforts, and have strong writing and editing skills. He/she will serve as a strategic leader within our Health System Development Office as the University embarks on a multi-billion dollar campaign.

Located in Charlottesville, the University of Virginia is one of the nation's premier public research universities with a thriving academic medical center. U.S. News ranked UVA the number one hospital in Virginia, and honored three UVA specialties among the top 50 in the country. In 2019, UVA will celebrate the bicentennial of its founding by Thomas Jefferson. In advance of this milestone, we have begun planning for a capital campaign to strengthen the University's foundation for its third century. This significant effort will begin with a quiet launch in 2017, followed by a public phase starting in 2019 and concluding in 2026.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of desktop applications and relational databases.
Ability to work effectively in high-tension situations and maintain composure under pressure.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Keen attention to detail and ability to coordinate all aspects of event planning.
Ability to evaluate and track expenditures and reconcile budgets.
Ability to interact with executive level administrators, government officials, donors/prospects, alumni and development staff, with an understanding of protocol, political environment and implications, and confidentiality.
Proven ability to coordinate programs.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and achieve cooperation with colleagues across Grounds.
Occasional Evening and weekend work required.
