The Office of Environmental Health & Safety is seeking to fill the position of Radiation Safety Technician. This position performs day to day radiation safety related tasks in support of various radiation safety program areas.
This position is responsible for assisting with collection and processing of radioactive waste in accordance with State/NRC regulations and will provide escorts to irradiator users according to internal procedures. The Radiation Safety Program maintains a database of all radiation safety records required by Regulation, and this position completes database entry of many of these records. This position will assist with inspections, guidance and re-training to all radiation laboratories and medical use areas in accordance with the University's materials license and Federal regulations and emergency response. They provide radiation safety coverage during medical procedures involving therapeutic use of radionuclides, and also assist with emergency response. Work is supervised and assigned at the task level.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to drive large trucks/vans
Wear respiratory protection
Lift up to 40 lbs
Obtain CDL with H classification
Must be able and willing to successfully complete NRC security and background investigations.
Ability to work well with others
Interest in learning new skills
Basic computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite)
Good communications skills
Able to work with hazardous materials including Biohazards.
Organizational skills necessary for maintenance of program.
Familiarity with safety/protection principles
