Posting Summary:
The University of Virginia Police Department, a nationally accredited law enforcement agency, is seeking to fill the position of Security Corporal to provide security services and security leadership to the University community. Security Corporals are responsible for security services in assigned areas across Grounds and at the Medical Center as well as providing daily operational leadership for the department. Security Corporals serve as the Shift Commander as needed for Security Sergeants.

Candidates must have some work experience dealing with the public in a security position, have a valid Driver's License with a positive points balance, meet all the physical requirements of the position and have the ability to successfully pass all required background checks and pre-employment testing. Security Corporals must display uncommon integrity and be committed to the highest level of professionalism and excellence.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to appropriately apply safety principles and evaluate situations and routinely make appropriate decisions under varying and often rapidly evolving situations.

Possess strong oral and written communications, including writing accurate reports, testifying in court as needed and interacting with the community.

Demonstrate exemplary customer service through responsive, approachable, and courteous engagement with the community.

Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions and procedures.

Ability to use equipment required in the conduct of duty.

Ability to drive security vehicles.

Ability to work a flexible schedule including mandatory overtime as a result of unforeseen circumstances and coverage requirements.

Ability to meet all physical requirements in all working conditions including walking and standing for extended periods of time, driving, lifting, etc. and successfully complete all pre-employment testing.

Ability to train officers in all aspects of their jobs and the department.

Ability to lead by example and mentor team members.

Strong sense of teamwork to facilitate operations between Security Officers, Supervisors, and other members of the University Police Department.
