The University of Virginia, Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, School of Engineering and Applied Science, seeks applicants for a Mechanical Engineering Technician at the Center for Applied Biomechanics. This position provides direct engineering and testing support for experimental injury biomechanics and automobile safety research. Applicants must possess a Bachelor of Science in mechanical or biomedical engineering, or equivalent, and have significant experience with engineering design and laboratory research.
Key duties include actively participate in all aspects of testing including design of experiments, brainstorming experimental planning, and conducting tests, managing, supervising, and assisting with setup and operation of 3D motion capture systems (e.g., Vicon), data analysis using scientific programming languages such as Matlab, and report writing and assisting with scientific publications.
The qualified candidate will possess at least one year of experience in an engineering research environment and have the ability to demonstrate hands-on experience with digital data acquisition systems and laboratory testing along with demonstrated experience with data analysis using scientific programming languages such as Matlab.
Preferred candidates will have a Master's of Science or a Master's of Engineering degree or equivalent with prior experience with 3D motion capture and biomechanics research, and experience with computational modeling and engineering design.
This is a one-year term position with the potential for extension based on work performance, availability of projects, and funding.
