The Upward Bound program at the University of Virginia is searching for a Program Coordinator. Upward Bound was founded at the University in 1968, to assist college-bound high school students develop the skills required to graduate from college. Participants attend academic sessions on various Saturdays throughout the school year. During the summer, participants reside on-Grounds for five weeks; it is designed to provide student's with a simulated college experience.
The Program Coordinator will assist the Director in recruitment of program participants, assist when needed in conducting workshops on Admissions, financial aid and/or career education, and provide academic, career and personal counseling to program participants. The Program Coordinator will also work with the program's parents organization to develop activities, including fundraising activities. Additional responsibilities will include but are not limited to developing a comprehensive social cultural program for program participants, assisting the Director in selection of summer program employees, supervising program interns and summer residential staff, assisting in the preparation of program budgets, and overseeing social media and website communications.
A successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree and experience working in a TRIO federal program or similar program for disadvantaged students, experience in staff supervision, budget management, program development and evaluation, reporting/compliance with federal regulations, and providing case management services, and advising students with college admissions and financial aid application processes. Master's degree is preferred.
The continuation of this position is contingent on the availability of funding and, as defined by University policy, is a restricted position.
