Dean of the School of Arts & Social Sciences

Description/Job Summary

  • The Dean of the School of Arts and Social Sciences is responsible for 15 disciplines and a highly diverse faculty. The Dean also supervises two Associate Deans, their administrative staff, and the Dean's administrative assistant.
  • The Dean is responsible for developing, administrating and balancing a multi-million dollar budget to pay for scheduled courses and various teaching and other supply lines.
  • The Dean is ultimately responsible for all the School's faculty, staff, and contractual personnel. The Dean evaluates his direct reports annually. The Dean also is ultimately responsible to ensure course and programmatic evaluations are completed according to College schedules.
  • The Dean initiates articulations with outside agencies, the Baltimore City Public School system as well as with private high schools, and other Baltimore City institutions and higher education schools.
  • The Dean is responsible for all grants within the School and is responsible for initiating new ones.

Required Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Ph.D in any discipline in the School of Arts and Social Sciences.
  • 2-3 years' experience as a Chair, Associate Dean, or Dean.
  • Experience hiring, evaluating, and supervising faculty and two Associate Deans.
  • Experience in budget development.
  • Developing class schedules.
