LECTURER, HUMAN DEVELOPMENT AND FAMILY STUDIES
COLLEGE OF EDUCATION AND SOCIAL SERVICES
The College of Education and Social Services at the University of Vermont (UVM) seeks applicants for a full-time, nine-month, lecturer position (non-tenure-track) in the area of Human Development and Family Studies. Preferred starting date is August 20, 2018.
The Human Development and Family Studies [HDFS] program serves students across the university as an academic major and minor, and provides university-wide introductory service courses. The HDFS program examines the ways people grow and develop across the life span, form relationships and families, and learn to cope with the common and uncommon events of life. The program integrates developmental and ecological systems perspectives, with application to potential careers for students. Students learn basic and applied concepts of human development and family science and acquire skills in working with individuals and families of different ages and backgrounds in a variety of community settings. Internships are required of all students. The Lecturer will join a full-time faculty of 4 serving 90 majors and 45 minors.
In addition to the program in Human Development and Family Studies, the Department of Leadership and Developmental Sciences offers graduate programs in Counseling, Higher Education & Student Affairs Administration, Interdisciplinary Studies, and Leadership & Policy Studies.

Responsibilities of the Position:
The successful candidate will assume a range of responsibilities that include:
• Teaching and advising in the broad areas of Human Development and Family Studies.
• Teaching one or more of these introductory courses: Life Span Development, Human Relationships & Sexuality, and The Family Context of Development, as well as courses at the intermediate and advanced levels, depending on expertise and interest.
• Participating in development of the curriculum and the administrative work of the program.
• Master's degree in Human Development, Family Science or an allied field is required.
• Substantial additional graduate study in Human Development and Family Studies or one of its foundation disciplines in the social and behavioral sciences.
• Substantial record of successful college teaching experience that includes Human Development and Family Studies courses.
• A doctorate in HDFS is strongly preferred.
• Recent successful college teaching experience, including large courses.
• Demonstrated commitment to social justice, and to interdisciplinary perspectives.
• Potential to contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through teaching and/or service.
