Special Populations Admissions Advisor

Description/Job Summary
Position Overview:

  1. Advising student veterans and students interested in selective admissions majors (i.e. Nursing and Health Professions) on the admissions process for the respective population indicated above
  2. Staying current on changes and updates to the US Department of Veteran's Affairs regulation pertaining to the Veteran's Educational benefits. Certifying and monitoring enrollment and academic progress of students using Veteran's Education benefits; Reporting changes in enrollment in accordance with the US Department of Veteran's Affairs regulations
  3. Conducting outreach and recruitment initiatives for veteran students; planning and conducting workshops for veteran students. Serving as the liaison between student veterans, the US Department of Veteran's Affairs, and college departments
  4. Planning and facilitating workshops on the selective admissions process for students interested in enrolling in Nursing and Health Professions programs
  5. Assisting with deans, associate deans, and coordinators in the review, ranking, and selective admissions process for students seeking admission into Nursing and Health Professions majors
  6. Working in collaboration with the director of admissions, academic deans, associate deans, and coordinators on determining course equivalencies from other post-secondary institutions for advance standing. Supervising the process for the evaluation of college and military transcripts for students seeking admission and advance standing at the college

Required Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Counseling, or related field from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in Advising, Financial Aid, Student Services, or Veteran's Affairs in a post-secondary institution or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Education, Counseling, or related field from an accredited college or university
  • 4 years of experience preferred
  • Experience in an Institution of Higher Education
  • Strong interpersonal and intrapersonal communication skills
