The Chief Information Officer (CIO) position at University of Vermont (UVM) is an exceptional opportunity to make a significant impact by leading the future direction of the information technology (IT) enterprise at one of the nation's premier public research universities.
Since 1791, the University of Vermont (UVM) has worked to move humankind forward. Today, UVM is a Public Ivy and top 100 research university of a perfect size, large enough to offer a breadth of ideas, resources, and opportunities, yet small enough to enable close faculty-student mentorship across all levels of study, from bachelor's to M.D. programs. UVM enrolls 12,000 degree-seeking students including 10,000 undergraduates and over 1,900 graduate students. The university attracts a distinguished faculty and has steadily built its research enterprise, growing sponsored research from $65 million in 1999 to over $138 million in 2016. UVM is implementing a new organizational structure, separating the units of Enterprise Technology Services (ETS) and University Libraries & Learning Resources that currently exist within a merged organization. This change in structure has created the opportunity to recruit a new leader who will direct central IT functions. The CIO is a critical hire and a priority for the Board of Trustees. Reporting to the President, the CIO will serve as an active and inclusive member of the senior leadership team and will provide vision for IT that is aligned with UVM's mission and strategic priorities. This leader will be tasked with transforming ETS into a true strategic partner that supports the goals of UVM. In addition, the CIO will lead in developing the IT strategic plan and governance structure to effectively prioritize technology investments working collaboratively with stakeholders across the University.
UVM seeks a dynamic leader who will bring strong strategic and operational leadership with a track record of success transforming IT in a complex institution, preferably a research university. The CIO will be an effective communicator who can build collaborative relationships at all levels. The CIO will have broad knowledge of the current IT landscape and a vision for the future that will strengthen UVM's position as a leader in higher education. A bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required; master's degree is highly preferred.
