Perform complex repairs and maintenance on University vehicles. Maintain safety and roadworthiness of the Transportation and Parking Services fleet of vehicles to include alternative power sources (compressed natural gas, hybrid electric, and diesel). Prioritize, diagnose, and determine correct resolution and repair vehicles. Report to the Mechanic Supervisor. Actively engage in learning and practicing principles of social justice and inclusion, environmental sustainability, and delivering a great customer experience.
Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
High school diploma, formal trades training and four years' specific experience required in diagnosing and repairing systems in passenger vehicles, transit buses, and commercial diesel engines. Specialized certification or ability to obtain within six months may be required. Valid Vermont Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B or higher with air brake and passenger endorsements or ability to obtain required. Lifting up to 50 lbs. occasionally required. Initial and continued employment dependent on satisfactory results of alcohol and drug testing required. May be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while performing specific job tasks.
Advanced training in maintenance and repair of Cummins fuel injected diesel engines, Allison electronic transmissions, and commercial air brake systems highly desirable. Experience using and interpreting computerized diagnostic programs used with 2007 and newer vehicles desirable. Proficiency in acetylene and arc welding, and fabrication of certain parts, desirable.
