Provide daily classroom teaching and learning, co-constructing a learning community with children, families and community. Collaborate with and mentor undergraduate early childhood practicum students. Document and develop emergent curriculum within the UVM Campus Children's School, which provides quality early childhood education and serves a practicum setting for pre-service early childhood education majors while embracing diversity of all kinds and maintaining a welcoming model of inclusion.
Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field and two years' related experience required. Red Cross certification required, or the ability to obtain. Experience teaching/working in an early childhood program and knowledge of child development from birth-5 years of age required. Must have current Vermont State Teacher Certification or have the ability to obtain one within six months of hire.
Experience working with diverse populations, children with special needs and student interns. An understanding of social constructivist pedagogy, a commitment to emergent curriculum and teacher research are highly desirable. An endorsement in EC or ECSP, or ability to obtain within one year is highly desirable.
Campus Children's School is open from 7:00am to 5:30pm. Teachers' regular workdays reflect shifts within these hours. In addition, time is committed outside of the school day as needed. Teachers are in classrooms with children from ages 6 weeks to 5 years old, and the work is active and physically demanding. All state licensing requirements apply to this position.
