To educate and assist farmers within the greater Connecticut River Watershed to establish farm practices beneficial to soil health and water quality in addition to other natural resources. To work directly with farmers to develop individualized Conservation Activity Plans, implement agreed-upon practices, document those practices, and connect farmers with NRCS funding support where appropriate. To provide education and demonstration of technical concepts in practice through group on-farm workshops and classroom events.
Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
Bachelor's degree in a related field with two years' experience in soils, nutrient management and/or agronomic management. Knowledgeable about environmental issues and agricultural water quality regulations and practices related to livestock, crop and/or vegetable farms, and protection of soil and water resources. Ability to travel to and from worksites, work independently, and be team oriented. Effective personal communication skills, attention to detail, and computer skills required.
Field-based experience working directly with farmers desirable.
Position located in the St. Johnsbury Extension office.
Occasional weekend and evening work may be required.
