Department Chair: Rehabilitation and Movement Science in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences

The College of Nursing and Health Sciences (CNHS) seeks a dynamic, innovative and visionary leader to serve as Chair of a growing and vibrant Department of Rehabilitation and Movement Science (RMS). This is a combined tenure-track faculty position with administrative Chair responsibilities. The position may be 9- or 12-months, depending on the discipline of the candidate, with reduced administrative effort in the summer months. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent academic doctorate and have the qualifications and experience to hold a senior faculty position. Individuals at the level of Full Professor are preferred although Associate Professors with relevant administrative and leadership experience will be considered.
The College of Nursing and Health Sciences along with the Larner College of Medicine and the University of Vermont Medical Center coalesce to form an integrated and collaborative academic health sciences center. The RMS Department houses five related areas of study including physical therapy, exercise science, athletic training, emergency medicine services, and integrative health. The department has recently expanded its graduate offerings with a collaborative,college-wide interprofessional Ph.D in Rehabilitation and Human Functioning, a new Master's degree in Physical Activity and Wellness, and plans to transition to an entry level Masters's program in Athletic Training, all of which contribute to a growing research agenda.
We are seeking an individual who is an accomplished teacher-scholar with a clinical perspective, who has experience in graduate education, and who has national recognition in their field. Leaders who are credentialed in a related discipline, are innovative around interprofessional practice and research, and eager for a dynamic opportunity to foster and implement change are encouraged to apply. The RMS Department Chair is responsible for managing all aspects of academic leadership and administration within the department, including setting strategic direction and new initiatives, providing mentorship and faculty development opportunities, budgeting and fiscal management, developing curriculum with faculty, and overseeing and evaluating faculty and staff. The Chair is also expected to teach 1-2 courses per year, maintain an active research program, and foster the growth and expansion of the department's research mission through mentorship of junior faculty.
