The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Connecticut is growing the faculty to develop existing strengths of the department and expand in exciting new directions. This year, the department invites applications for multiple tenure-track or tenured faculty positions at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor, focused on advanced and digital manufacturing, including developing innovative material systems, mathematical and computer modeling, as well as analysis and fabrication approaches with a strong emphasis on scientific rigor. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to: computational design & manufacturing, design and synthesis of materials and metamaterials, robotics and control, uncertainty quantification and reliability, multi-scale engineering, and learning models in related areas. Candidates with a distinguished record of achievement as evidenced by leadership in their field of expertise, significant extramural funding, as well as a commitment to excellence in teaching will be considered in all areas of mechanical engineering.
Senior faculty will be considered for the Pratt and Whitney Chair within the department.
The successful candidates will develop an internationally recognized and externally funded research program, and have demonstrated outstanding scholarly contributions in research as well as a passion for engineering education. Furthermore, successful candidates will also be expected to broaden participation among members of underrepresented groups; demonstrate through their research, teaching, and/or public engagement the richness of diversity in the learning experience; integrate multicultural experiences into instructional methods and research tools; and provide leadership in developing pedagogical techniques designed to meet the needs of diverse learning styles and intellectual interests.
Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline by the time of appointment; strong background and research interests in at least one of the areas identified above; a record of or demonstrated potential in scholarship and establishing a successful, externally funded research program; a proven record of or commitment to excellence in teaching; and dedication to promoting diversity through teaching, service and/or research. Equivalent foreign degrees are acceptable.
Demonstrated outstanding scholarly contributions in research; passion for engineering education; experience in developing research grant applications to funding agencies; experience in conducting research in a competitive interdisciplinary research environment; demonstrated ability to contribute through research, teaching and/or public engagement to the diversity and excellence of the learning experience.
These are full-time, 9-month, tenure-track positions with an anticipated start date of August 23, 2018. The successful candidate's primary academic appointment will be at the Storrs campus. Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
